From making shows, singing songs to running a pub!
We took over the Black Swan in October 2023. We had used the function room of the pub since 2017, where we established ‘North Walsham People’s Theatre’ for shows and our People’s Choir. A new landlord wasn’t found so we decided to take the reins of one of our town’s oldest buildings.
60 volunteers helped transform the pub and then 40 more volunteers helped transform the theatre the following January, where we built a permanent stage, a dressing room, a community kitchen and accessible WC to ensure our theatre was a space for everyone, from classes to shows and parties!
Here’s a before and after gallery showing our hard work.
A haunted pub!
The Black Swan has had some form of inn on the site since the 1700s, predominantly a coaching inn through the 18th and 19th centuries. We have also collected a number of ghostly goings on! you can read more about our haunted pub, its history and our North Walsham Ghost Walks here.
