Three-time Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke is joined by Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who; Sex Education) in this joyful reimagining of Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated comedy.
While assuming the role of a dutiful guardian in the country, Jack lets loose in town under a false identity. Meanwhile, his friend Algy adopts a similar facade. Hoping to impress two eligible ladies, the gentlemen find themselves caught in a web of lies they must carefully navigate.
Max Webster (Life of Pi) directs this hilarious story of identity, impersonation and romance, filmed from the National Theatre in London.
What is National Theatre Live?
The National Theatre has filmed this play in front of a live theatre audience, but optimise everything for the big screen so it’s the next best thing to being there.
The actors on stage deliver their performances as they normally would any other night. But to make sure everyone watching in a cinema has the best seat in the house, they have tailored the position of the cameras to capture each production and work closely with technical teams to make sure every element on stage such as lighting, hair and make-up look fantastic on the big screen.
How to book your tickets
Book your tickets with us at the bar in the pub (no booking transaction fee) during our opening hours or call 01692 500006 and leave a message on our answerphone or book online (booking transaction fee applies).
