Workshops are run by our director, Joseph Ballard. Joseph is a director, playwright and teacher. We run very friendly, welcoming and energetic sessions. For our 8-11s group, this means lots of high-energy based drama games that explore teamwork and coordination. We focus on making theatre and using the imagination – as the imagination is the best tool we own as human beings!
We love exploring the different skills needed to make theatre. We’ll be looking at different topics each term and will also work towards productions. We also occasionally sing songs when needed for shows and we’re always welcoming ideas from our members for what they would like to do next.
“I look forward to youth theatre – they are the best times because we have youth theatre where I see my friends and play games.” (Participant, aged 9)
“The sessions cannot come round quick enough for my son who always comes home beaming and telling me what the class has been up to.” (Parent)
Our workshop leaders and assistants are DBS checked and have received appropriate training for supporting sessions with children and young people.
We also hold extra sessions and rehearsals when we’re getting ready for a show – as youth theatre members have the opportunity to take part in our other productions, like the Christmas pantomime or summer show.
